SOLVENT CEMENTS AND PRIMERS 135 Purpose: If your next project requires that the plumbing installers are trained and tested in accordance with ASME B31.3, Oatey has the capability to both train and test each installer. From a mechanical contractor’s point of view, B31.3 verifies that each installer has been properly trained in solvent welding and has passed a bonders procedures qualification test. An ASME B31.3 certification provides the assurance that the appropriate products are used in the correct corresponding applications. The solvent welding training portion of B31.3 is an in depth look at what pipe preparations need completed, primer and cement application, assembly techniques, and areas of concern such as “interference fit”, correct applicator size and cure times. The testing portion requires the installer to assemble a test sample consisting of 3" or 4" schedule 80 components. These samples are allowed to fully cure, then are tested at 750 psi for one hour. The sample cannot leak or separate during that time. Each installer that attends the solvent welding class and successfully passes the pressure test will receive a “Card” verifying their completion of the ASME B31.3 training class. Participation Requirements: • Contractor Training form and Roster ° Completed form sent to Oatey ([email protected]) at least 1 month in advance of requested training date • 12 contractors or less per group – for larger groups special arrangements may be made • A/V Equipment provided for PowerPoint Training – if not available, props for demonstration of presentation are necessary – pipe fittings, cements, primer, beveling or chamfer tools, etc. • Materials necessary PER ATTENDEE for Training & Certification ° 12" lengths of 3" or 4" schedule 80 pipe precut, squared off and chamfered prior to training. ° Two of 3" or 4" schedule 80 caps to match the pipe sizes. For each assembly, one cap should have a one-quarter inch hole drilled in the center to act as air relief, and one cap should remain undrilled. ° Do not mismatch pipe and fittings – either all PVC or all CPVC and either all 3" or all 4". ° Pipe and fittings should be from the same manufacturer ° 1½" dauber for 3" pipe application and mini roller for 4" pipe application ° Beveling or chamfering tools – grinder, cordless router, file, etc. ° Sharpie Pen to note on fitting – Installer Name, Company, and Date • Oatey does not charge for the training, provided the pipe and fittings are supplied by the wholesaler, contractor or rep. • Fittings have to be cured for 4 weeks – please allow up to 8 weeks for testing to be completed. • Notification of Pass/Fail will be sent from [email protected] ° Passing contractor will receive a certified card ° Contractors that do not pass have the ability to retake the test until they pass. • In order to re-submit assemblies, a WebEx session will be scheduled with those members
